Roger Clemens talked about his plight and laughed. “I’m failing at retirement,” he said. “Let’s just face it. I’m failing miserably at it.” The 44-year-old right-hander, unsure whether to retire or return for a 24th major league season, was the keynote speaker for the St. John’s winter baseball banquet on Wednesday night.

Yankees ask Cabrera to skip Caribbean World Series (AP)
Yankees outfielder Melky Cabrera will skip the Caribbean World Series at the team’s request so he can rest up for next season. Miguel Cairo’s $750,000, one-year contract with the New York Yankees was completed Friday. The 32-year-old infielder hit .239 with 30 RBIs in 222 at-bats for the Yankees last year, appearing in 81 games. He started 57 games: 36 at second, 10 at shortstop, six at first base, four at third and one in left field.
