Steinbrenner not venting over last place (AP)
Hank Steinbrenner sounded optimistic on Friday, one day after his struggling New York Yankees fell into last place in the American League East. All it took was one look at last year’s standings. “Well, we’re not as far back as we were last year at this time,” the Yankees’ co-chairman said in Tampa, Fla.

A-Rod: Leg fine, ready to play in minor league game Saturday (AP)
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez reported no problems with his strained right quadriceps Friday, one day after running the bases for the first since being sidelined last month, A-Rod is scheduled to play in the first of three extended spring training games Saturday. Barring any setbacks, he is slated to rejoin the team Tuesday.
